Burnsville, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has responded to the scene of a fatal shooting that claimed the lives of two police officers and a paramedic.

The shooting occurred Sunday morning at a residence in the Twin Cities suburb of Burnsville.

The Officers dispatched to the home were responding to the report of a domestic abuse call for assistance, according to a statement released Sunday morning by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association:

Two officers with the Burnsville Police Department and one first responder were shot and killed early Sunday morning while responding to a domestic abuse call for assistance.
Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association Executive Director Brian Peters said, “We are heartbroken. Our law enforcement community is heartbroken. We’re just devastated at the horrific loss. These heroes leave behind loved ones and a community who will forever remember their bravery and dedication to keeping Minnesotans safe.”
Law Enforcement Labor Services (LELS) Executive Director Jim Mortenson said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the officers and first responder who responded to a domestic call this morning. These officers were struck down while answering the call of duty to serve and protect. We mourn alongside the Burnsville community and the families of those killed.” LELS represents the rank-and-file officers and the supervisors of the Burnsville Police Department.

Preliminary reports indicate a standoff ensued that involved children being held hostage. At some point gunfire erupted.

The BCA says the suspected shooter, described as a man, shot and killed two officers and a paramedic. Officials say the shooter has also died.

The BCA’s Force Investigation Unit is at the scene. A tweet on the agency’s X account says officials plan to release more information upon completion of the preliminary investigation.

The names of officers, paramedics and the shooter have not been released. Details regarding the events that led up to the deadly shooting have not yet been disclosed.

Law enforcement agencies took part in a procession Sunday morning to bring the slain officers and fire paramedic to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis and the Medical Examiner's Office in Minnetonka.

Sunday morning’s tragedy prompted an outpouring of support and condolences from elected leaders law enforcement and others across southeast Minnesota and beyond.
