Deer Collision Risk Is Highest in These Minnesota Counties
If your commute lately has felt like a real-life game of Frogger, but with antlers… you’re not imagining it.
We are smack dab in the middle of the most dangerous time of year for deer collisions in Minnesota. Fall is peak season for deer activity, which means they’re moving more, crossing roads more, and popping out of nowhere like they have no fear.
And I swear, they are everywhere. I counted four deer on my way into work today. FOUR. If you’ve ever hit a deer, you already know how brutal it can be. It’s loud. It’s scary. And it’s the kind of moment that sticks with you every time you see glowing eyes on the side of the road again.
According to a report by A-Z Animals, Minnesota is one of the states where you're most likely to have a run-in with wildlife literally, with deer being the primary culprits. And while the entire state deals with this issue, some counties are significantly worse than others.

And here’s the wild part… The experts say many deer collisions go unreported, meaning the real numbers are likely higher than what’s officially recorded.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety warns that deer collisions spike especially around dawn and dusk. To stay safe, slow down in deer-prone areas, use high beams when possible, and stay alert for glowing eyes along the roadside. Don’t swerve if a deer appears, and remember, deer often travel in groups, so if you see one, another may be close behind.
