Mexican Ice Cream Shop Plans To Open Rochester Location This Week
La Michoacana Purépecha is coming to Rochester and will be opening soon. I spoke to the owners to find out about their plans for the Rochester location and what they'll be serving.
On their site they explain, "We’ve taken Mexico’s number one natural frozen treats shops and created our unique offering and concept, giving Minnesotan’s an authentic and original experience—for the first time—of traditional La Michoacana shop"

MSPMag.com checked out the Twin Cities locations and says the menu is packed with delicious treats, "Not only can you find over 50 kinds of paleta popsicles in flavors like horchata and avocado, but you can score spicy fruit cups and dorilocos, which are like the best version of a walking taco dumped into a chip bag ever."

What Is Mexican Ice Cream?
Fany Gerson actually wrote a book about the treat and told tastecooking.com that Mexican ice cream is closer to gelato because it is less airy and has less fat than what we're used to in America. Another difference is the toppings. Gerson says, "Unlike the Ben & Jerry’s we’re used to, ice cream in Mexico also places more stress on the flavoring agents, like chocolate, cinnamon, and fruit."

A rep from the Rochester Chamber of Commerce told me the Mexican ice cream shop will have a soft opening Thursday and plans to be fully open by this weekend.
