McDonald's is always trying new items on its menus. Some like Onion Nuggets or Salad Shakers don't last long, but some like the Happy Meal are instant hits. “Since the Happy Meal was introduced on the menu, it quickly became synonymous with our brand,” said Steve Easterbrook, McDonald’s CEO. “Today, this iconic red box creates lasting memories for billions of families annually across the world.”
Each year, more than 1-billion Happy Meals are sold in more than 100 countries around the world. Now, McDonald's has announced a major change to the kids' meals.
Whether you were a chicken nugget kid or you preferred hamburgers the thing that you were probably most excited about was the toy.
McDonald's has announced that those toys will look completely different by 2025.
In a press release on the company's corporate website, they say, "Today we’re taking a step to keep the fun going while helping to build a more resilient planet for the next generation."
The company wants every toy sold in Happy Meals to be sustainable by 2025 - "made from more renewable, recycled, or certified materials like bio-based and plant-derived materials and certified fiber."
McDonald’s says they've assembled a team of scientists, toymakers, and suppliers to work with kids and keep the "fun-factor high" with these new environmentally-friendly Happy Meals which will be sold starting in January.
