Last week Marrow, in downtown Rochester, closed suddenly. Now we have another business closing in the downtown area. Mezza9 Cafe has announced they'll be closing at the end of the month.

Mezza9 Cafe Closing in Rochester, MN

Mezza9 made the announcement on social media earlier today about their decision to close.

In their announcement, they write,

This decision comes after a long period of struggle. Like many small businesses, we have faced rising costs, high rent, and the ongoing challenge of low foot traffic in downtown Rochester. Despite our best efforts, it has become increasingly difficult to sustain the business.

If you want to stop by their super cute shop one last time for a coffee, lunch, or dessert, you have a little bit of time. They'll be closing on June 30th.

The Struggle of Downtown Rochester

Our downtown area has gone through some serious ups and downs since COVID, and clearly the rollercoaster isn't done. Just to share my personal gripes, I feel like all of the construction happening ALL at the same time in and around downtown is doing no favors in trying to revitalize a once lively area.

My husband and I love to hit up the downtown area. Over the past few years, I feel like I've started to see more and more people out and about downtown, but clearly there are some hurdles that still need to be cleared in order to really make downtown Rochester the place that we all want: A fun place to go with thriving local businesses.
