Minneapolis Gets Surprising Spot on 2025 Dangerous Cities List
Minneapolis, Minnesota is such a cool city! Unfortunately, the crime in the area isn't good, and there are many people who are afraid to visit because of that.
It's understandable! I do have to say, though, that there are plenty of places in Minneapolis that are safe. Just use common sense, and don't end up in the more dangerous parts of town.
However, Minneapolis is a massive city, and crime comes with big cities. That's just how it is. But is Minneapolis one of the MOST dangerous in the US?

The Most Dangerous Cities in the US
US News and World Report is out with their 2025-2026 rankings of the top 25 most dangerous cities in the US. Yes, Minneapolis made the list, but where they ranked might surprise you.

In order to determine the rankings, they looked at "each city's murder and property crime rates per 100,000 people," which were "determined by FBI crime reports".
5 Most Dangerous Cities in the US for 2025-2026
Which cities came in as the top 5 most dangerous? Let's take a peek and see if Minneapolis is anywhere to be seen.
5. Detroit, MI
4. Baltimore, MD
3. St. Louis, MO
2. Oakland, CA
1. Memphis, TN
Memphis, Tennessee ranked as the most dangerous city in the US for 2025-26. And Minneapolis didn't make an appearance in the top 5. That's good news!
Minneapolis isn't in the top 10 either... or the top 20.
No, Minneapolis actually came in dead last, number 25, barely making the ranking at all this year.
Does that surprise you? I'm glad that this is the case! I grew up in the Twin Cities, so I'm much more comfortable there than others who aren't as familiar with the area. But I think Minneapolis gets a bad rep, too.
Yes, bad things have happened there, there's no denying that, but it's not as bad as many people seem to assume. So I'm really glad to see that they ranked low on the list.
