St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - All of the major pandemic statistics for Minnesota tracked lower today and the number of coronavirus-related deaths was the lowest in about two weeks.

The Minnesota Department of Health today reported 18 coronavirus related deaths statewide. It was the first time that grim statistic was below 20 during the month of December and was the lowest daily death toll reported since November 30 when state health officials listed 15 deaths involving people infected by the new virus.

Just over 3000 new confirmed and probable infections were reported throughout Minnesota today. 72 of the new COVID-19 cases were found in Olmsted County. Almost 42,000 COVID-19 tests were completed on Sunday for a daily testing positivity rate of about 7.2-percent.

The COVID-19 hospitalizations numbers are also lower. As of yesterday, 1,283 Minnesotans were hospitalized due to the viral infection. 319 of those patients were in intensive care units. That is the lowest that number has been in a month. It also marks the first time the non-ICU hospitalization total has dropped below 1,000 since November 9th. That count on Sunday was listed at 964.
