Minnesota Kindness Week: November 6-10
United Way of Olmsted County and C.A.K.E - Caring Acts of Kindness Everywhere (This is the group I coordinate and founded) have teamed up to spread some love in southeast Minnesota! If you're looking to add some extra goodness in the world - especially now - this is a good time to jump on this bandwagon. There will be themed days all next week that provide inspiration for acts of kindness to be carried out. you can participate with a group, lead your own group or do it on your own. The goal is to commit intentional acts of kindness so that it impacts our world in a significant way. The schedule is below.
I kicked off #MNkindness week a little early, here's what went down a few minutes ago. It goes to show that kindness comes full circle:
- 1
Suspended Coffee
Cafe Steam will have a K&B Brew (Kind & Bold Brew) on special, and invite you to purchase a beverage for someone else to be redeemed at a later time.
A "Friend Drink" is a great way to surprise a friend, coworker or even the stranger behind you in line. We encourage you to take your generosity to the streets in whatever fashion you choose (coffee, cookies, ice cream, flowers etc.)!
- 2
Kindness Chalk
Come join others and write kindness quotes and images with chalk on the sidewalk. Our Friendly Neighborhood Pizzeria, Pasquale's will be hosting some Kindness Art on their side walks with some chalk provided.
We encourage you to take your friends or family out and about to liven up community spaces with your own chalk! Sending messages of hope, love, and affirmation anonymously can do so much for a person, imagine how many people will see your thoughts, hopes, and prayers right here in our Downtown!
- 3
Pay for a student in needs lunch
Consider donating towards unpaid lunches for kids in need, right here in the Rochester Public Schools!
This can be done anywhere at anytime, as long as you text KIND to 41444 to make your donation. *Money raised during the MN Acts of Kindness Week will be used to pay off the "Reduced-Price" lunch balance within the Rochester Community Schools.
We encourage you to share this opportunity with your friends and family as it is a wonderful chance to make a big difference for the children in our community!
- 4
Hand out flowers and hugs
Volunteers will be outside of the Peace Plaze giving out flowers and hugs. (Some flowers provided by Flowers by Jerry)
We encourage you to stop by Flowers by Jerry or any flower shop and bring them out to wherever you please, giving them to random people or office mates. You may also give hugs if consensual. The idea is to show up in a random location and give a stranger a flower and a hug, the spontaneous kindness will yield some lovely results. Feel free to make a sign or wear a silly hat, simply do it in kindness!
- 5
Kindness Trees
We encourage you or your business to host a Kindness Tree: A suggested gift of new or gently used youth and toddler winter outerwear for someone in need can be left at the tree in the bin at any of the locations listed below. On Friday, United Way and the Minnesota Acts of Kindness Volunteers will be out and about picking up donated outerwear at the Kindness Trees throughout Rochester.
