Minnesota Law: Who gets the engagement ring if the couple splits up?

According to Martin and Wagner, “Minnesota law states that "an engagement ring is a ‘conditional gift’ and the condition of the gift is marriage.” So, it all depends on whether or not the couple got married – The law says the ring must be returned if the couple did not get married, but the person that received the ring can keep it if the couple did and ended up getting divorced.
