What Makes a State 'Patriotic'?
While one might assume the most patriotic people are the ones who fly the US flag and wear red white and blue shirts, that's far from what actually makes a state patriotic.
A patriotic state is one that has residents who participate in events or organizations to better their community, who vote in elections, and who help their neighbors by volunteering.
And that's exactly what Wallethub looked at to determine the most patriotic states. Some of the key metrics they used are:
- the state’s military enlistees and veterans
- the share of adults who voted in the 2024 presidential election
- AmeriCorps volunteers per capita
- volunteer rate
Based on their findings, they determined that Minnesota is one of the most patriotic states in the US!

Is Minnesota Considered Patriotic?
They named Minnesota as the 9th most patriotic state in the country. We had:
- one of the highest volunteer rates (tied for 3rd)
- the highest percentage of adults who voted in the 2024 presidential election
- our best overall ranking was in Civil Engagement
Coming up on the 4th of July and celebrating America's 250th birthday, it's pretty cool to see that we Minnesotans are so patriotic!
