St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - It is official, the Minnesota National Guard is again being activated to protect the State Capitol.

Governor Tim Walz today issued a new executive order authorizing the activation of National Guard personnel, equipment, and facilities to help provide security at the State Capitol complex in St. Paul in light of the violence that occurred last week at the US Capitol, recent violent rhetoric outside Minnesota's Capitol, and FBI reports of about the potential for violence at the State Capitol in the days leading to, during, and possibly after the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden next week. The executive order also authorizes the use of National Guard troops to respond to any potential civil unrest associated with the inauguration.

The order does not specify how many National Guard members are needed for the mission. The order will remain in effect until January 27th, or if it is determined the National Guard's assistance is no longer needed.
