Here’s What Minnesota’s Thanksgiving Travel Forecast Now Looks Like
If you're going to be heading over the river and through the woods this Thanksgiving, here's a heads-up on what our weather will be like in Minnesota.
The Thanksgiving holiday is a uniquely American tradition, filled with tons of food and a gathering together with family and friends as we express our gratitude. According to the National Archives Museum, the First Thanksgiving was held back in 1621 near Plymouth, Massachusetts 'to mark a successful harvest' that year.
If it seems like Thanksgiving is late this year, you're right-- it is. The Farmers' Almanac notes that since 1941, Thanksgiving has been held on the fourth Thursday in November. And with the holiday falling on Thursday, Nov. 28th this year, that makes it the latest date possible for Thanksgiving.

If you're like many Minnesotans, the Thanksgiving holiday involves traveling. According to AAA, over 55.4 million travelers headed 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period last year. And here in the Bold North, most of that traveling involves driving.
In fact, AAA notes that over 89 percent of Thanksgiving travel is done in the car, with the busiest travel days expected to be Wednesday, Nov. 27th and Sunday, Dec. 1st. So if that includes you, here's the latest Thanksgiving travel forecast, courtesy of the Farmers' Almanac-- and it's good news for us here in the North Star State.
The Farmers' Almanac's extended Thanksgiving travel outlook says we can expect calm weather here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes this Thanksgiving:
Weather will be sunny throughout the Central U.S., with mostly warmer-than-normal temperatures from the Upper Midwest (Minnesota and Wisconsin) through the Heartland (Iowa, Missouri, Kansas) all the way to Texas and Oklahoma.
Of course, with the holiday being around 14 days from now, we know that Mother Nature could certainly change things here in Minnesota before then. But right now, I'll take a sunny forecast with warmer temperatures!
