There are quite a few words and phrases that we Minnesotans have. A travel blog called Enjoy Travel shared a list of 7 Minnesota slang words and phrases to sound like a local. Let's see if you know them all.
'Oh, for cute' is the equivalent of 'adorable'.
'Uff-dah' is used as an exclamation. For example, if something is physically difficult you might say 'uff-dah', or if a friend is telling you about a rough day you might say 'uff-dah' in response.
'You betcha' is just a way to agree with someone or something.
Wherever you might use the phrase 'holy cow' or 'jeez Louise' you could also say 'holy buckets'.
If someone says "Hey, you budged!" they're talking about someone skipping ahead in a line. Don't be a budger.
Skol is a word used when cheering for the Vikings! WCCO writes that Skol is actually from the Swedish word 'skål' which Gregg White, Executive Director of the Swedish Council of America, says "'was a greeting of warmth and camaraderie.'"
It's not Duck, Duck, Goose, it's Duck, Duck, Grey Duck. End of story.
One that's not on Enjoy Travel's list that really should be is Ope.
Ope is like 'oh', 'oops', or 'excuse me'. Commonly used in the sentence 'Ope, let me sneak right by ya.'
