How Do They Know the Parks Have Less Bugs?
This list of the state parks with the least amount of bugs was released by the Minnesota DNR. No, they didn't send some poor new guy out to check it out.
It's actually based on "their geologic and meteorologic conditions." Because of these conditions, it's less likely that you'll encounter a ton of bugs. Yay!
How to Make Yourself Less Appealing to Bugs
The DNR also offered up some tips on how to prevent bugs from being attracted to you. Because even though these parks typically have less bugs, doesn't mean there won't be any.
Those tips are:
"Wear lighter colors, loose clothing, and long sleeves if possible." They also say wearing a hat to protect your head and face is a good idea.
Perfume and strongly scented products are a no-go. Bugs love that stuff.
Sweat attracts bugs, so try to keep cool.
And keep bug spray around, just in case.
Also, don't forget to do a tick check once you've been outdoors just to be safe.
