Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin’s Most Popular Text Abbreviations
hile text abbreviations are very casual, when we're texting with our friends or family it makes everything faster. Instead of typing out 'by the way' you can just type 'btw' and it gets the point across. Because text abbreviations are so popular there was a new study done that figured out each state's most popular text abbreviation. Let's check out Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin's.
But first, how did they determine our most used abbreviations? This study was done by WordTips. They took millions of Tweets and determined our most popular abbreviations that way.
"WordTips analyzed more than 18 million geotagged tweets across every state and the 50 biggest cities, and then calculated the average number of tweets (per 100,000) that contain common textspeak abbreviations. We also analyzed the usage rate of abbreviations by state compared to the national average to find each state’s most uniquely popular initialism."

Which abbreviations do you use? I'd say my most common ones would be lol, omg, wtf, and jk. One of those four is actually the most common across the country! That one is 'lol'. The data showed that 1,411 Tweets out of 100,000 used 'lol'. It's by far the most common one.
Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin's Most Used Text Abbreviation
The most popular text abbreviation in both Minnesota and Wisconsin is one I've used here and there but it didn't make my top 4. And I don't remember the last time I used Iowa's most popular abbreviation.
Iowans like to use 'imo' a lot (which stands for 'in my opinion' in case you were about to Google it). Wisconsin and Minnesota's most popular is 'tbh', which I've definitely used before but not a ton. The other four I feel like I text to my husband and least once every day.
