This Is the Most Stolen Car in Minnesota, and My Husband Drives It

When I saw the list of the most stolen cars in Minnesota, unfortunately, I wasn't surprised by what I saw. My husband's car is the number one most stolen car in the state.

In fact, we were almost part of that statistic a couple of years ago.

My husband was visiting a friend at his apartment and had parked right in front, quite close to the front door. He leaves our friend's and sees that someone had taken a drill to the driver's side door, and the handle had been ripped off and was on the ground. Clearly, someone had tried to get in but was unsuccessful.

The Most Stolen Cars in Minnesota for 2025

Compare the Market, a car insurance comparison website, analyzed and released the results of the most stolen cars in each state in 2025.

They found that, in Minnesota, there were 285 cars stolen last year.

The third most stolen: Ford Pickup

Second most stolen: Hyundai Sonata

The most stolen car in Minnesota: Hyundai Elantra.

Again, I was sadly not surprised to see my husband's car sitting right at the top. I mean, Hyundai has been dealing with security issues on some of their cars for a few years now, so it's no surprise someone tried to steal his car.

How to Protect Your Car From Getting Stolen

If you drive one of the above cars, it might be a good idea to get some added protection, like a steering wheel lock.

There are also security updates that Hyundai has been coming out with over the years. I would know, we get a notice in the mail every time. Thankfully, at least with Hyundai's case, the upgrades are free for us, so look into that if you drive a Hyundai too.
