NOTE: The monolith pictured is the one from Boulder, CO.
Mysterious monoliths have been popping up around the US and around the world since November and now we have our very own right here in Minnesota. It's near Cedar Lake in Minneapolis. But where are these weird monoliths coming from?
First, let's talk about this monolith in Minnesota. The Star Tribune writes that it's "A 6-foot, three-sided wooden structure". It's silver and looks similar to the monolith that appeared in Utah in November.
The first monolith appeared in Utah on November 18th and the public found out on November 23rd, according to USA Today. It was then removed on November 27th by four unidentified people, according to photographer Ross Bernards and Ross' friend Mike Newlands who claim to have been there when it happened. Two of the four stepped forward that same day saying they were the ones who removed the monolith.
People still have theories that the monoliths are coming from aliens though, which is definitely an interesting theory to entertain, true or not. However, there is proof that at least some of these monoliths were created by artists who were inspired by the news stories.
Monoliths have popped up in tons of other places. Outside of the US, they've appeared in India, Austria, Morocco, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, Ukraine, many places in Canada, Australia, New Zeland, Panama, The Bahamas, Bolivia, Columbia, Paraguay, and Iran. In the US, on top of the one now in Minnesota, monoliths have been found in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington DC, and Wisconsin.
