Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) – Motorists in Rochester’s Silver Lake area will be affected by a detour scheduled to begin Wednesday.

The city Public Works Dept. is beginning a rehab project involving the 7th St NE bridge near the Silver Lake swimming pool.

This means 7th St. will be closed to traffic between the bridge and W. Silver Lake Dr. The street will be open to local traffic only from the east side of the bridge to 11th Ave. The official detour will route traffic on W. Silver Lake Dr. from 7h Street to E. Center St. to 11th Ave.

The department says in 2016, this bridge was posted to allow lesser vehicle loads. Once the preservation project is complete, the load-posting signs will be removed and allow for heavier vehicles to once again use the bridge. Additionally, the incorporation of buffered bicycle lanes creates more mobility for a new user type along this corridor and fits within the City’s Complete Streets Policy.
