Netflix Movie Starring Kevin Hart Tells the Heartbreaking Story of a Minnesota Dad

I had seen there was a new movie starring Kevin Hart coming to Netflix, but I had no idea until now that the movie is based on a true story of a Minnesota dad and his daughter. The movie is called 'Fatherhood' and it's coming to Netflix Father's Day weekend, June 18th.

The movie depicts the heartbreak that Matt Logelin experienced after his wife Liz, died just one day after their daughter Maddy was born. Suddenly Matt had to raise Maddy all on his own.

Both Matt and Liz are from the Twin Cities but at the time they lived in Los Angeles. Matt and Maddy still live in the LA area. Matt first started writing about his experience as a single dad in a blog. Then he wrote a book called 'Two Kisses for Maddy'. And now it's a Netflix movie.

Matt and Maddy spoke with KARE 11's Jana Shortal about the movie that was made about their life. Matt said it was never his dream to have a movie made about him.

Matt also talked about what it was like when he found out the movie was being made. He said he learned that filming would start in June of 2019 and that he was being played by Kevin Hart. I can't imagine how that would feel to be told that someone as famous as Kevin Hart is portraying you in a movie! Matt said he thinks the casting decision was perfect. He told KARE 11,

'That Hollywood finally had the foresight to say we are not just going to make this story about a white guy….it doesn't matter that this was experienced by a white guy in a white family, this is experienced by a lot of other people.'

Of course Maddy, who is now 13, was asked if she thinks her dad has done a good job raising her by himself and she replied, "'He's done well ... He's awesome.'"
