Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Motorists who frequently travel between Rochester and Stewartville are likely celebrating the opening of the new Highway 63 northbound bridge over I-90.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the bridge and the interstate ramps have opened as crews wrap up the first year of the two year reconstruction of the busy interchange. The temporary traffic signal that was installed at the north end of Stewartville has also been removed until the $15.4 million project resumes in the spring.

While the I-90 westbound exit ramp to northbound Highway 63 and the I-90 eastbound exit ramp to northbound Highway 63 are both open, MnDOT says the changes involving Olmsted County Road 8 and Highway 30 remain in effect.

The focus of the project next year will be the replacement of the southbound Highway 63 bridge over I-90, which will again require the reduction of traffic to a single lane in each direction. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in August of next year.
