A popular Lakeside eatery announced it will be closing its doors after a couple of decades in business.

The owners of New London Cafe on East Superior Street in Duluth shared the news on Thursday morning that they will be closing down later this month after 20 years of serving locals and visitors to the eastern Duluth neighborhood.

The locally-owned restaurant and coffee shop shared a heartfelt message on their Facebook page on Thursday morning, saying "After 20 wonderful years, New London Cafe is closing its doors." They thanked their local customers for supporting the business over the last 20 years, which has included two years under the most recent owner.

The message of gratitude from the owner reflected on the business's journey and the community's support, saying "Your support and shared moments will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Here’s to the memories that nourished us all."

Fans of the restaurant responded to the news on social media, with many commenting how they will miss the eatery's fantastic food and sharing how much they've appreciated the experience the restaurant has offered over the years. Some commented on memories from over the years, while others called out their favorite menu items like their Friday fish fry and wild rice burger.

The owners say the final day of service will be on Monday, January 29. They also noted that the public should "stay tuned for what's to come for the space", which suggests there might already be plans in motion for the future of the building.
