Rochester, MN (KROC AM News)  -  A Rochester man had a very close call Monday and can thank two local officers for saving his life.

Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says the 31-year-old man was in a car with a friend at the south Walgreen’s store around 8:00 pm when he overdosed.

An Olmsted County deputy was the first to respond and found the man was unresponsive. A Rochester police officer was the next to arrive. As the deputy was performing chest compressions, the officer administered a dose of Narcan and the man regained consciousness. He was taken to the hospital for additional treatment.

Moilanen suspects the man had taken a pill he bought on the street and was not aware it contained a high level of fentanyl.

Moilanen says his department has seized thousands of the illegal pills in recent months.
