Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - There's been a surge in COVID-19 activity in the Rochester area.

The Minnesota Department of Health today reported 107 new infections in Olmsted County. It marked the first time the county has seen over 100 positive test results in a day and was over 40 above the previous record for new cases reported in a single day, which occurred on Saturday when the count for Olmsted County reported by the state was 65.

The statewide total of new and probable COVID-19 reported Sunday was 2217 with 18 additional coronavirus deaths. There have now been over 150,000 COVID-19 infections detected in Minnesota since the start of the pandemic

The testing positive rate on Sunday was about 8.3-percent based on approximately 26,500 tests completed. The daily positivity rate has been sliding lower for the past several days after jumping into the mid-teens last week.
