Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A former RCTC football player will be sentenced in January for his involvement in a fight that broke out after a Yellowjacket football game in October of last year.

On Friday, 22-year-old Shan Fiorenza entered into a plea agreement to settle charges in that case and an incident that occurred in downtown Rochester back in June. He admitted to a third-degree assault charge in connection with the altercation at the football game and entered a guilty plea to a gross misdemeanor charge of carrying a pistol without a permit in a public place in the other case.

Fiorenza and another former RCTC football player were arrested the night of October 24, 2021, after members of the RCTC team and an opposing team began to argue and engage in a physical altercation following a game in Rochester that day. A coach for Minnesota West Community and Technical College told police he saw Fiorenza throwing punches and when the coach tried to intercede, Fiorenza was accused of punching him in the face five times. The coach indicated Fiorenza and a second RCTC player, 22-year-old Akim Richmond, then threw him to the ground and continued assaulting him, causing him to blackout and suffer a concussion.

Fiorenza was originally charged with second-degree assault for the second incident in downtown Rochester this past summer. In that case, he was accused of pointing a gun at a group of people during an argument before he fled on foot when he was confronted by a Rochester police officer. He was arrested after a citizen who saw what was happening stuck out his foot and tripped Fiorenza.

According to court documents, Fiorenza's guilty plea to the felony assault charge carries a presumptive sentence of one year in prison.
