One of Rochester, Minnesota's movie theaters the Odyssey Hollywood 12 Theater, formerly known as Cinemagic Theaters, is closing their doors. We learned about the sad news just last week.

They made the announcement on their Facebook page on Monday, July 8th. In the announcement, they said it's been an "honor to serve the Rochester market for so many years."

In a press release, they said, "The decision to close Hollywood 12 Cinemas comes as the lease with the landlord has reached its end, and Odyssey Cinemas has elected not to renew it."

Their last day open will be on Thursday, August 22nd.

What Should Replace Hollywood 12 Theater?

The question that always comes up when a large place closes is 'What should replace it?'. The building has tons of space and it's in a popular location. Plus, we Rochestarians always have things on our list that we'd like to see come to town.

So I took to the 106.9 KROC Facebook page and asked what you thought should replace the movie theater once it's closed.

Here are 10 ideas, and there's one in particular that I really hope actually happens.

What Could Go in the Old Hollywood 12 Theater Building

Indoor Mini Golf

A few people mentioned that indoor mini golf would be a good thing to have in town, and I agree, that would be fun!

Sensory Center

A sensory center for kids with Autism was also brought up, which is a good idea.

Whole Foods

Another idea was a Whole Foods. I am a little surprised we don't have one yet but also that area has a lot of grocery stores already.

Another Movie Theater

Some people want it to stay as a movie theater and hope that someone new will come in.

Indoor Go Kart

An indoor go kart track would be crazy! I feel like it could be massive with how big the building is.

Something Fun for the Whole Family

Quite a few people generically said we need something fun for the whole family to go into that building. I'm thinking laser tag, arcade, games, maybe bumper cars, that sort of place that has a lot of options for everyone.

Smash Park

My idea that no one said in the comments but I think would tick a lot of boxes for people is Smash Park. They've got pickleball, arcade games, giant yard games, and food and drinks. They're starting to expand into Minnesota so Rochester could be added to the list.

Roller Skating Rink

Easily the most popular answer was a roller skating rink. While I do think that would be fun, is it because we all grew up going to roller skating rinks? I'm just not sure that kids today would want to go as badly as we did back in the day.

Dave and Buster's

Finally, the one that I 100% think should be the thing to replace the movie theater is a Dave and Buster's. If people didn't suggest that on our Facebook page, I would have thrown that out there myself. You've got food, drinks, tons and tons of games. I think it would be really popular in Rochester.
