Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council will likely get an earful Monday evening during a public hearing involving the planned major rebuild of a section of North Broadway.

The hearing deals with the proposed property assessments to pay for the project which has an estimated cost of $19.2-million.

This is the second round of proposed assessments. It was ordered after the first round led to an uproar from many of the affected property owners. Many have also criticized some of the changes in the section of N Broadway between Civic Center Dr. and Silver Lake that are part of the project.

Several property owners have already filed objections to the size of the new assessments. Samaritan Bethany sent a letter to the city questioning the $220,000 proposed assessment on its main site and threatening to go to court if an agreement on a lower amount can’t be reached. The Public Works Dept. is seeking a decision on the assessments and approval to advertise for bids for the project.

The council is also being asked to award a bid to repair the damage caused by a significant water leak that occurred last September at the public library. The recommended bid of $213,000 was submitted by JT Enger Construction Co.
