UMR asked the city for $7.7 million in funding as part of a $10.4 million project regarding the university’s presence in the Discovery Square district in downtown Rochester.

Construction of the outdoor amenities at the complex is underway. The city council is planning to discuss how to fund the indoor portion of the complex later this year.

Officials at Rochester Community and Technical College informed the city earlier this week that they are not interested in having the facility built on the college campus.

The decision followed a move by the state legislature that would have allowed the college to enter a long-term lease with the City of Rochester.

Construction is expected to begin next year, with the project slated for completion in 2031.

The Town Hall for the Arizona city ultimately decided to offer the job to a current employee.

The elected leaders voted unanimously to provide the tax increment financing during their meeting Monday night.

The proposed apartment project would be built along Fourth Street Southeast within easy walking distance of downtown Rochester.

The presentation indicates the price tags for each of the options would be around $55 million.
