Just because it's the first week of May in southeast Minnesota doesn't mean Old Man Winter is done with us yet!

The forecast for the rest of the week here in our neck of the woods is calling for highs only in the upper 40's by Friday-- and that's roughly 15 to 20 degrees below the average high in southeast Minnesota for the first week of May.

And while, thankfully, we're not dealing with that 18 inches of wet, heavy snow that we got back on May 2nd of 2013, Old Man Winter might throw one last gasp of freezing cold weather at us as we head into this weekend.

Literally, freezing, that is. Because according to the National Weather Service office in La Crosse, we have below freezing overnight low temperatures in our forecast several nights in the next week. Their forecast calls for lows of 30 degrees Thursday night, 28 degrees Friday night, and near 32 degrees again Monday night.

And that means there could be widespread frost after 5 am Friday, Saturday and Tuesday mornings. Which also means, if you've already planted any flowers or plants, or have any outside, you'll want to make sure you've got them covered up (or brought back inside) so Old Man Winter doesn't put an end to their life before they've even offered up any blooms.

The NWS even issued this advice in their Hazardous Weather Outlook:

Frost and freezing temperatures will be possible Thursday and Friday nights. Unprotected tender vegetation could be damaged or killed. Frost is possible again on Monday night.
