Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Temperatures in the Rochester area plunged Saturday morning as Friday’s storm moved out of the region.

The temperature at the Rochester airport dropped from 26 degrees at 9:00 AM to 11 degrees at 10:00 AM. It was 7 degrees at 11:00 AM and dropped below zero at sunset. Wind gusts of 40 mph were reported in the Rochester area through much of Saturday and they produced wind chill readings around -30 degrees.

It will remain cold through Monday but warmer weather is on its way. Temps are expected to climb into the mid to upper 30s on Wednesday.

Blowing snow and slick roads were reported across the entire state Saturday, contributing to hundreds of traffic wrecks.

The State Patrol responded to more than 900 traffic accidents, spinouts, jackknifed trucks and other mishaps between 6:00 AM and 9:30 PM Saturday. There were 42 injuries. A snowmobiler was killed in an accident in northern Minnesota.
