Viewer Calls Rochester, MN Meteorologist ‘Unprofessional’ – Here’s His Response
Late at night on Monday, July 28th, a good chunk of Minnesota got pounded with storms, some with extremely high winds. I'm not sure if any of them actually did develop into a derecho, which was the worry, but I know there was some serious wind damage in some parts of the state.
Southeast Minnesota definitely got hit with some storms, and meteorologists in the area were live on the air and on Facebook to keep people updated on the situation.

KTTC Meteorologist Called 'Unprofessional' For Checking in On Family
One of those meteorologists working hard late into the night was KTTC's meteorologist Nick Jansen.
He covered the storms late at night for about 3 hours. Man, big shoutout to all meteorologists. I know you get a lot of crap as it is (with people thinking you control the weather and all), but then you also spend hours on end keeping us in the know during major storms. So props to you!

Anyway, during his live coverage, he took a quick moment to hop on his phone and text his wife to make sure that she and their baby were safe and in the basement. It took all of 10 seconds, and he was back to the live coverage.
But apparently, someone thought that it was so terrible that he checked in on his family.
Nick shared the story and the clip of him texting his wife on his Facebook page and said:
I received an email telling me how unprofessional I was during my coverage. The quote that really struck me: "That he has to call his wife to make sure she takes the baby to safety? Maybe some people think it's noble or cute. I don't".
Are. You. Serious? If this person has a family, don't tell me you wouldn't make them your first priority and you'd check in on them too in a situation like this. And if that's not what you'd do, well, sorry, but you don't strike me as a kind human being, then.
Here's the moment that got this person all upset:
Nick also said on his Facebook post in response:
I take my job and your safety very seriously. But I'm also a husband and a father. In the middle of severe weather, I decided to take a brief moment to make sure my wife and child were safely in the basement. That's not me being unprofessional, it's me being human. I am a husband and a father FIRST.
Tons and tons of people are applauding Nick for what he did and how he handled the negative email he received, and I'm right there with everyone. Your wife and child matter way more. He's got his priorities straight.
Nick concludes his post with, "Let's all try to show each other a little more understanding and respect in life."
