Paws and Claws Humane Society Takes in Shelties from Hoarding Situation
On the night of Thursday, July 24th, Paws and Claws Humane Society in Rochester shared a post on their Facebook page about shelties that were found in a hoarding situation.
The week prior, 27 shelties were seized from a home in Washington County. Authorities had discovered the conditions that the dogs were living in and knew they needed to take action.

Here's how Paws and Claws described the conditions these shelties were living in:
Dogs confined in crates too small to stand properly or stretch comfortably, no bedding or clean water.
Dogs who were covered in urine stains, many severely matted, infested with fleas and ear mites, overgrown nails making it uncomfortable for them to walk, many are significantly underweight and malnourished.
The air inside the home was so thick with ammonia that the officers needed to wear respirators. ...
Nearly every dog is suffering from severe dental disease.
These dogs, thankfully, were able to be rescued from this terrible situation, and Paws and Claws graciously said they were able to take in 24 of the shelties.
That's a ton of work and a ton of money to help these dogs, so Paws and Claws asked for our help.
Along with sharing the story of these dogs, they also mentioned all of the help that these dogs would need:
•Full dental exams, cleanings, and multiple tooth extractions.•Treatment for infections and eye injuries•Specialized nutrition and supportive care•Emotional rehabilitation after extreme confinement•Grooming
And all of that adds up fast, especially for 24 dogs. So they asked for $20,000 in donations to help these dogs.
Animal Advocates Come Together to Help Dogs in Need at Paws and Claws in Rochester
$20,000, they know, is a big ask. When I first saw this post, it was shortly after it was posted, and there were already thousands of dollars raised. The next morning, I want to say it was up to $17,000.
As of writing this story, Paws and Claws has raised over $22,000 to help these dogs. That's incredible! I'm so happy that there are so many caring people out there who are able to pitch in, even if it's just a little, to help these helpless animals.
The shelties have now been to the groomers and are looking spiffy!
They're not ready for adoption just yet, but if you're thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, keep an eye on Paws and Claws' website.
