The kickoff to summer comes with a ton of summer events launching soon. We have to get out and enjoy our short summer as much as possible! And one of those events is a Rochester staple called Safe City Nights.

This event takes place throughout the summer with free food, fun activities, and the chance to connect with a learn from the Rochester Police Department.

What is Safe City Nights?

Safe City Nights was started by RPD Chief Jim Franklin in 202 as a way for the community to connect with police and to "'strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community,'" as RPD Officer Charlie Arendts put it to KTTC.

On top of that, it's just a fun event to check out during a nice summer night. With the free food, fun activities for the kids, booths from different city departments, and the chance for the kids to check out some of the cool police stuff, it's a great event that's grown in popularity.

Rochester, MN Safe City Nights 2026

The events take place at schools in the Rochester area. Here's the schedule for 2026:

Tuesday, June 9th - Gibbs Elementary - 6-8 PM

Tuesday, July 14th - Jefferson Elementary - 6-8 PM

Tuesday, July 28th - Bishop Elementary - 6-8 PM

Tuesday, August 11th - Franklin Elementary - 6-8 PM

To my knowledge, the intention is for people in the community to go the Safe City Nights event that's held at the school in their area, but anyone is welcome at any of the Safe City Nights.

There are so many other events that happen throughout the summer in southeast Minnesota. Keep scrolling to take a peek at some, including annual festivals and weekly events.
