Finally it feels like summer outside! It's the perfect time to talk about something new that has come to Rochester for the summer, and that's season passes for the pools in town.

Before you say, wait, Carly, there's only one pool, we've got a brand new one opening this summer, and that's the Silver Lake Pool. These new season passes will be valid at both the Soldiers Field Aquatic Center and the new Silver Lake Pool all summer long.

Rochester, MN Pool Season Passes

If you find yourself at the pool or beach a lot in the summer, getting a season pass for you and the kids might be the right move this summer. I remember when I had a season pass to a pool close to where I grew up and that was the BEST summer ever.

The season passes can be purchased only at the Rochester Parks and Rec office inside City Hall, weekdays 8 AM - 4:30 PM.

A season pass is $150 per person, but you get a discount for every additional pass you purchase for the same home address. Here's the price breakdown for that from the city website:

  • Second Family Member: $125 per person
  • Third Family Member: $100 per person
  • Fourth Family Member: $75 per person
  • Fifth Family Member and beyond: $50 per person

Now the question you may be asking yourself is:

Is the cost of the season pass worth it for the number of times my kids actually go to the pool?

Let's break that down!

How Often You Need to Go to the Pool for the New Season Pass to be Worth It

Let's talk about the cost for the kiddos to go to the pool first.

A day pass for a kid between ages 3 and 17 for Soldiers Field Aquatic Center is $9. At Silver Lake Pool it's $3

Let's use the $9 here. If the season pass is $150, that means your child would have to go to the pool 17 times over the course of the summer for the pass to be worth the cost.

As the parent, you may also want to swim with your kids. Adults (18+) cost $11 for the Soldiers Field Aquatic Center and $5 for the Silver Lake Pool.

Again, let's use the higher cost, so $11. Let's say the cost for your season pass is $125 since you'd have already bought a pass for your kid. That means you as the parent would need to go to the pool 12 times for the pass to be worth the money.

Of course, the cost situation will be different for everyone depending on how many passes you buy, so do your own calculations, but I figured I'd give you a rough base to work with to see if the new season pass is worth it for your family.
