Don't panic if you see a huge law enforcement presence at Walmart this weekend. The Rochester Police Department just announced their annual Shop with a Cop event will be held on Saturday and more than 50 law enforcement officers participating.

The Rochester Police, Olmsted County Sheriff's Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol will meet up at Walmart North in Rochester this Saturday,  December 4th between noon and 3:00 pm to take children shopping during the 18th annual event.

A Rochester Police Department press release explained how the annual holiday event works:

Schools identified sixty children to participate in this year’s Shop with a Cop. Each child will receive a $110 Walmart gift card to purchase presents for themselves and family members. Officers will help them shop and wrap the gifts. The children will also receive lunch and a tour of police vehicles.

 

Shop with a Cop is sponsored by Rochester Police Benevolent Association, Olmsted County Deputy Sherriff’s Association, Canadian Honker, Walmart, and Sam’s Club.

Rochester Police Cheif Jim Franklin is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community.
