Why Can't You Buy Spotted Cow in Minnesota?
The company has stated that there is a huge demand for Spotted Cow beer, and expanding distribution to other states would strain their production capacity.
On their website, they offer an explanation and an apology: "Sorry about the limited distribution, non-Wisconsinites. There are only so many hours in the day to make beer, and we can only keep up with the local demand."
Violating This Minnesota Beer Law Could Result in a $1000 Fine
Minnesotans often bring Spotted Cow back from Wisconsin, but they should be aware of the state's laws on importing alcohol.
Under Minnesota Statute Section 297G.07, individuals 21 or older can legally bring in up to 288 ounces of beer without paying Minnesota excise tax.
To put that in perspective, 288 ounces is roughly the equivalent of a single 24-pack of 12-ounce cans. If you're caught with more than the legal limit, law enforcement officers are authorized to seize the excess alcohol, and you could be fined.
