The Drunkest City in Minnesota is 150 Miles From Rochester

Minnesotans have been known to raise a pint or two, but the Drunkest City in Minnesota apparently does it way more-- and it's just 150 miles from Rochester.

Usually, when stories like these cross my desk, there's some definite science or data interpretation involved. Take, for instance, the study that determined the list of the Drunkest Counties in the U.S. It used empirical data (the census list of the counties with the highest drinking rates) to compile its list. (Click HERE to see the only Minnesota county to make the list, btw.)

But this new survey, which lists the Drunkest Cities in Every State, was compiled solely by the followers of Matt Surlee. He's an online content creator who specializes in creating maps and graphics and has created one every day since 2017. He asked his Instagram followers to list the drunkest city in their state and then compiled their results to create the map below.

According to Surlee's Insta followers, St. Cloud (about two-and-a-half hours northwest of Rochester) takes the honor as the Drunkest City in Minnesota in 2021. I'm not positive, but I'd guess it has a lot to do with St. Cloud State University being located there, especially given the penchant college students have for getting their drunk on. Similarly, Iowa City-- home to the University of Iowa-- was listed as the Drunkest City in Iowa on the map.

Meanwhile, check out what Surlee's map says is the Drunkest City in my home state of Wisconsin: All of them. Ha! (Having been born and raised in America's Dairyland as well as having gone to college there, I can confirm that's a pretty accurate statement.)
