The Future of Movie Theaters is in Jeopardy
The future of movie theaters is in jeopardy! That title literally makes me want to cry. One of my favorite past times, not to mention a family fave right now - I love going to movies. The idea that we may not have that option anymore, breaks my heart.
Only about 1,300 of the 5,500 movie theaters in the U.S. are currently open. Not surprisingly, drive-in theaters are getting the majority of business. Meanwhile, all the big new movie releases are being delayed. How long can movie theaters survive without new movies? According to the president of the National Association of Theater Owners, not much longer. He recently told the Los Angeles Times that "If we go a year without new movies, it's over."
