Beloved Rochester brewery, Thesis, announced the sad news at the beginning of August that they would be closing before the end of the year.

We all assumed we had a bit more time to get one more last call in at Thesis but unfortunately their closure came sooner than we thought. They made the announcement on their social media that they are now officially closed. I stopped by to see for myself and found a similar message on their door.

Thesis in Rochester, MN Closes, Cites Construction

In their announcement in August, Thesis says that the reason for their closing is due to all of the construction headaches, saying:

Most of you are probably aware that for the better part of the past year, there has been significant construction along 2nd Street SW in front of our brewery. The longer these projects go on, the more we are seeing people avoid 2nd Street altogether.

I had heard rumblings that they would be closing mid-December, but clearly something happened because they are now officially closed.

I was hopeful that there would be one last hurrah celebration, but this was pretty sudden. I'm also surprised that they are closed, because they had shows booked through October.

Regardless, on their social media post announcing the closure they write:

After all the beers, all the bands, and all the good memories, the time has come for us to close the Thesis taproom.

What started as an idea for a place built around beer, music, and community became so much more because of all of you who showed up, hung out, danced, laughed, and made this place feel like home.

We are endlessly grateful to every customer, band, artist, neighbor, and staff member who was part of this wild ride. Thank you, Rochester, for seven incredible years - we love you.

I popped by this afternoon to see if it was actually true and sure enough, the open sign was off and there was a sign I found on their door:

I'm so sad to see them go. I loved going for trivia nights with friends and grabbing a Thesis Pieces or Citrus Mistress (those were my favorites). But sadly, it's the end of an era...
