When someone asks what Minnesota is famous for in the food department, what comes to mind? Hotdish? Lefse? Walleye? Chicken and Wild Rice Soup? Apparently, it's none of these - at least according to a recent Business Insider article.

In Tennessee, you go for spicy Nashville Hot Chicken. Maine? Lobster rolls. Alaska? Smoked salmon. California? Avocado toast, of course! They hit the mark with every one of these states, but their pick for the Land of 10,000 Lakes blew me away.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a super fan of Minnesota's "most famous dish," but I was genuinely surprised to see it named our "signature food."

Sure, it's probably the most popular item at the Great Minnesota Get-Together! Not cheese curds. Nope, not chocolate chip cookies. Funnel cake? Nope. Think you know what it is?

A corn dog! Do you agree??

Apparently I needed a little history lesson to understand why the corn dog was named North Star State's most famous dish.

While some say corn dogs, then called "corny dogs," were introduced at the State Fair of Texas between 1938 and 1942, Pronto Pup vendors at the Minnesota State Fair claim to have invented the first breaded-and-fried hot dog in 1942. - Business Insider.
