Big news today, a former cold case about a baby, known as Baby Angel, found in the Mississippi River has been solved after the mother was sentenced on Wednesday, May 6th, 2026.

Baby Angel Case

Baby Angel was found in the Mississippi River on September 5th, 2011. The people who discovered the body pulled her from the water and attempted CPR.

It was determined that she was a newborn and an autopsy found she had "suffered multiple skull fractures and brain bleeding", according to KROC-AM. She was found with a pendant and several angel figurines, hence the name Baby Angel.

In April of 2025, thanks to DNA testing, an arrest was made related to this case.

Our news team at KROC-AM writes,

Using DNA testing, Winona County Sheriff’s Office investigators identified the child’s mother as 43-year-old Jennifer Nichole Baechle of Winona.

Now, Baechle has officially been sentenced.

Baechle was charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter and a gross misdemeanor charge of interference with a dead body.

On Wednesday, Baechle entered a plea agreement which calls for her to plead guilty to the interference charge in exchange for the dismissal of the manslaughter counts.
