More than one person tagged me on this story and once I read it - I agree, it's such a great idea! Imagine a vending machine that hosts necessities for those that are homeless? It keeps the food cool and provides other essential items. This idea became a reality through Action Hunger, a charity that has moved concept to creation in Nottingham, United Kingdom. After seeing so many people that were homeless, Huzaifah Khaled wanted to do something about it.

The vending machine has been a huge success.

The machines dispense water, fresh fruit, energy bars, crisps, chocolate, and sandwiches, as well as socks, sanitary towels, antibacterial lotion, toothbrush and toothpaste combination packs, and books. A considerable amount of the food we vend is received from redistribution organisations that seek to reduce food waste.

Use of the machines is exclusively permitted to those in need, and items can only be vended with the use of a special key card, which our partner organisations in each locality give to our users.

Another novel idea has been implemented right here in Rochester. The Little Free Pantry- Rochester, MN is a pantry that stores essentials and non-perishables for those in need. Anyone can stop by to grab items or donate to the pantry.
