The city has self-proclaimed themselves this prestigious title, and every year, they go to all sorts of lengths to prove it! In Anoka, Minnesota Halloween isn't just a one day affair. Oooh no, you see they go all out once the calendar switches to October!

According to Best Things in Minnesota, Anoka is believed to be the first city in the United States to put on a Halloween celebration to divert its youngsters from Halloween pranks. When Anokans awoke to find their cows roaming Main Street, their windows soaped and their outhouses tipped over, they decided something had to be done.

With parades, costume contests, bingo, wine tastings, medallion hunt, adult and children's pumpkin-carving and also house-decorating contests, the city gets into the true spirit of the season with dozens of other activities and events October 6-29.
