Minnesota Animal Rescue, Wags and Whiskers, Closing After 17 Years
After 17 years, an animal rescue in Minnesota is closing. Wags and Whiskers Animal Rescue out of Farmington made the sad announcement on social media late last week.
Wags and Whiskers Animal Rescue, Minnesota
Wags and Whiskers launched in 2009 and was entirely volunteer run. While they were officially based out of Farmington, they didn't have a shelter space, and all animals were in foster homes.

Donations and adoption fees were what kept them in operation and paid for things like vet visits and food that the animals needed while waiting for their forever home in foster care.
Evidently, the donations and/or adoption fees weren't keeping up with the cost. That's, at least, what I'm assuming is the reason why they're now closed.

Wags and Whiskers Animal Rescue Closing
In the announcement, Wags and Whiskers writes,
After much thought and reflection, we are saddened to share that Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue will be closing its doors.
This decision was made only after careful consideration and comes with deep heartbreak and sadness.
The way that that's written is why I think it's a financial decision. It sounds to me like they were not expecting it, they were trying to make it work, but in the end they couldn't make it happen, which is really sad.
It sounds like they have already ceased operation and the animals have all been placed elsewhere, as the announcement says,
We have worked diligently to place each [animal] with another local 501(c)(3) animal rescue, and the rest have found their forever homes
