Massive Changes Coming to Walmart South in Rochester, MN

It appears some big changes are coming to Walmart South in Rochester, Minnesota. People have noticed lots of fencing and big signs blocking the view. So what exactly is happening?

Big Changes Have Already Come to Target

Both Targets in Rochester have gone through their share of big changes over the past few years. First, Target North was renovated, and then Target South.

And the most recent big project was adding Ulta Beauty to the Target North location.

Now Walmart seems to be following the trend of upgrading stores and that appears to be what's happening at Walmart South.

Walmart is Making Big Changes

In a blog from Walmart's CEO John Furner from the end of January, he says that the company has big plans for "expanding and modernizing". He also wrote, "During the next 12 months, we plan to remodel 650 stores across 47 states and Puerto Rico".

So back to our local Walmart...

What's Going on at Walmart South?

Like I mentioned earlier, fencing and signs were spotted in the Walmart South parking lot.

If you noticed, one of the signs says "We're Improving How You Walmart". Walmart South appears to be one of the 650 stores they're remodeling this year.

What Changes Are Coming to Walmart?

This remodel actually comes with quite a few changes. CEO John Furner writes that the remodels will include "improved layouts, expanded product selections and innovative technology".

One way they're doing that is by refreshing the exterior of the store. The checkout area is also being redesigned. They're also expanding their pharmacies (and moving them to the front of the store) and vision centers.

Not only that, but they're also doing these things called "activation corners". Some items on sale will be on display so you can more easily visualize it being in your own home. It's giving me Ikea vibes.

They're also creating more room in general throughout the store.

When Will Walmart South's Remodel Be Complete?

While I was making sure that what was going on at our Walmart was indeed a remodel, I came across a job posting on Walmart South's Facebook page.

The post said they were looking for 'remodel associates'. They say that the job would be temporary and would go through October. So it sounds like the Walmart South remodel should be done just in time for holiday shopping this year.
