A Warning Has Been Issued for Minnesotans Planning to See ‘Wicked’

The new 'Wicked' movie with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo comes out tomorrow and fans are super excited! But there has been a warning issued for 'Wicked' fans who are planning to go see the movie.

I never saw the original Broadway musical 'Wicked' but even I'm getting excited about this movie. All of the publicity they're doing definitely helps but it also looks really good.

'Wicked' Broadway Musical

I think it's common knowledge but if you don't know, 'Wicked' is the story of Glinda and The Wicked Witch of the West from 'The Wizard of Oz' before 'The Wizard of Oz' takes place.

The Broadway music is based off "of the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West". That book is inspired by the 1900 book 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' which, of course, then because the 1939 movie 'The Wizard of Oz'.

Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth were the original Elphaba and Glinda in the Broadway musical.

'Wicked' the Movie

'Wicked' follows Elphaba (who eventually becomes The Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda in their early years. The synopsis from AMC Theaters says 'Wicked' is "the untold story of the witches of Oz". Elphaba is "a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power". Glinda is "a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart."

The two become unlikely friends and you'll have to see the movie to see how the rest of the story plays out!

The movie stars Grammy, Tony, and Emmy winner Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda.

But, if you're planning to go see the movie in theaters, there has been a warning issued to all 'Wicked' fans.

AMC Theaters Issues a Warning to 'Wicked' Fans

AMC Theaters issued this warning and they are telling people NO SINGING. And I'd say this goes for any theater that you go to.

AMC Theaters has an ad going that's featuring scenes from 'Wicked' saying "'No talking. No texting. No singing. No wailing. No flirting,'" according to People.

Sing-a-long Screenings of 'Wicked'

Good news for those who do want to try and belt out 'Defying Gravity', there are plans for sing-a-long screenings of the movie!

Variety says, "Interactive showings of Universal’s upcoming movie musical will be offered in roughly 1,000 North American cinemas starting on Dec. 25". Exact theaters and showtimes haven't been set just yet, though.
