It's a real possibility that we may soon never have to change our clocks again in Minnesota. For a long time, people have talked about getting rid of Daylight Saving Time. It really screws with our sleep schedule which ultimately isn't good for our health. But if we never changed our clocks again, what would that look like in our day-to-day life?

The latest update on the steps toward no more Daylight Saving Time is that the US Senate unanimously passed the Sunshine Protection Act, according to KARE 11. The act basically says we won't change our clocks anymore and stick with permanent Daylight Saving Time. Next, the US House of Representatives needs to vote on it and if it passes then it'll hit the President's desk.

If you're hoping that this would take effect this year, I've got some bad news. If the act is approved and signed into law it won't take effect until November 2023. So if it gets approved we'll still need to change our clocks again this fall and next spring. But after that, then what?

The biggest difference if we never change our clocks again would of course be in the winter when we'd usually have fallen back an hour. Instead, the sun would come up much later but also set much later leaving more sunshine later in the day than usual.

KARE 11 says the days that the sun sets the earliest are typically December 4th - 15th. On those days, if we went with permanent Daylight Saving Time, the sun would set at around 5:31 PM instead of 4:31 PM. So we'd get extra sunshine! However, the days that the sun rises the latest is between December 30th and January 5th. With permanent Daylight Saving Time we wouldn't see the sunrise until around 8:51 AM instead of 7:51 AM.

The extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day is awesome but the extra hour of darkness would definitely be a tough adjustment. Plus, I know a lot of parents are worried about how dark it would be for their kids waiting at the school bus stop. What are your thoughts?
