I know you're already asking a lot of questions about this! I was too!

Last night I did some last minute grocery shopping at the 37th St. Hyvee in NW Rochester. As soon as I made my way to the entrance of the store after parking the car, I noticed blue pumpkins for sale outside.

I thought, "Blue pumpkins?" Then, I did some research.

There are genuine pumpkins in existence that are blue. The ones I found at Hyvee are not those. They felt painted when I held one. Again, I asked "why?" and did more research.

My theory was that these "blue" pumpkins were supposed to be "teal" to represent something pretty important. It's all part of the Teal Pumpkin Project which is about, "raising awareness of food allergies and promoting inclusion of all trick-or-treaters throughout the Halloween season." A blue or teal pumpkin on a doorstep means that that home has treats sensitive to those allergies and diets.

Candy is still fine to pass out, but having a blue or teal pumpkin on your doorstep means you'll have other options available for all trick-or-treaters.

Doesn't this sound like a cool idea?
