Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - There was some excitement and a police presence in a quiet Rochester neighborhood Wednesday.

Officers were called to the school district’s Hawthorne Learning Center around 2:00 PM after a student was stabbed in the hand.

Police Capt. John Sherwin says 26-year-old Wade Smith stabbed the victim while sitting in her car. Sherwin says the two have a domestic relationship. The 26-year-old woman was inside the center when Smith showed up and they apparently went to her car so she could give him a ride home. Sherwin says Smith had been drinking and the two got into an argument. That’s when the woman was stabbed, suffering a deep cut to her hand. She ran back inside the center and called 911. She was later taken to St. Marys Hospital for treatment.
