You’ll Soon Be Able To Camp at the Minnesota Zoo
Big changes proposed for the Minnesota Zoo, and camping is just the beginning.
Sleeping under the stars, soaring above the tree tops and hiking in the great outdoors. These are the additional things you can expect to do at the Minnesota Zoo in the near future.
The Minnesota Zoo director has proposed turning the 1.8-mile monorail track into an aerial treetop walk. The Zoo’s out-of-commission monorail shuttled visitors for 34 years, but now Director Frawley envisions an attraction similar to New York City’s High Line park – built on an old elevated freight railway.
Plus, they'd like to add campgrounds, hiking trails and an adventure course to the property. There are also plans for a base camp in the backwoods with a lodge, cabins and tent sites – though not all plans have been approved by the board, according the Star Tribune.
The five year plan for the zoo will see fewer ‘blockbuster’ exhibits and more bite-sized investments, that will better connect guests with nature. For more information, click here.
