Yep, you read that correctly! Former soccer players from one of the world’s biggest soccer clubs will be in Rochester over Memorial Day weekend to run a youth soccer camp!

The camp includes four former players for the famous FC Barcelona soccer team. The camp will be headed up by Santi Gea, a former FC Barcelona player and former member of the FC Barcelona coaching staff. Gea played in the team’s system from 1993 through 1998, and has won multiple accolades as a player and coach, including a Catalonian championship and appearances in the Spanish Copa del Rey and Supercopa.

Other members of the camp’s coaching staff is Sebastian Herrera and David ‘Pirri’ Almazan. These two were also part of the FC Barcelona team during the late-1980s and early-1990s. They played under legendary Dutch player and coach Johan Cruyff.

The camp is being hosted and organized by Rochester-based company Global Sports Experience Network (GSEN). The new company plans to do additional camps and also to organize travel for players and teams to receive soccer training in Spain.

The camp will run from Saturday, May 27 through Monday, May 29. Space is limited to 75 players, and open to those ages 10-16. Players should be playing at a C2 level of soccer or higher. The cost for the three-day camp is just $295. Registration is available online at: https://www.gsenusa.com/barcelona-goes-to-mn.

Rochester’s new National Premier League Soccer franchise, Med City FC, is also helping with the camp, providing players and coaches to assist the FC Barcelona staff over the course of the weekend.
